Another
brilliant sunny day. Not sure how long our luck can last but we are
enjoying it while it lasts.
Today
was really a family day. We left the B&B before 9AM and headed
north and then picked up the M4 motorway heading to London, then on
to the notorious M25 circular route. It notorious because of its
slowness, especially during the working week. Again we were lucky
and there were no major holdups.
About
11:30 we arrived at St Albans to meet the first of our new Spencer
“cousins,” Linda and Tim. Tim had the foresight to park his car
on road, so that we could park in front of his house. Parking is at
a premium in many British housing areas for most houses have at least
one and often two or more cars. When they were designed, the
architects considered that a household that had a Mini was well off
and only planned for a small car. Most places have filled their
garages, if they have one, with all sorts of other essential 'stuff”
so the cars sit outside.
We
had a good chat with Linda and Tim and their two sausage dogs, Lenny
and Oscar, although I have to admit the dogs did a lot of talking
too.
Then
we went to the local pub, the Plough, where we met up with the rest
of our extended family. It was great to put faces to names that had
only appeared as email addresses. We had a great chat and lunch and
more chatting and all too soon it was time to say Goodbye.
We
drove back to the M25 and went eastward around London, to Tunbridge
Wells. Our B&B is on the Salomon Estate which seems to earn its
living from weddings and conferences.
Only
a few photos today.
The Plough pub was a quaint old pub
We came across a couple of horses with blindfolds like this.
Apparently they are to keep the flies from annoying the horses.

A pleasant lunch out in the English sun.
The Queen Elizabeth bridge across the Thames. A toll bridge of course.
