We managed to get everything in our bags and keep under 20kg (just) per bag.  Lynette's was lighter by four kg.

Our Bowling Club fellow diners, Jean and Jim, came and picked us up and escorted us to the ferry.  I think they wanted to get rid of us.  That saved us a lot of effort.  Thanks!  Pancho came to the gate to see us off, but the other two cats were happy to sleep.

The ferry and trip to the airport were uneventful.  At the airport we tracked down FlyHidryate, a product that is supposed to help with jet lag.  It's available in liquid form or as tablets which you add to your water bottle.  It has a high vitamin C component so whether it evolves into kidney stones for Jim will be interesting.  Watch this space over the next few days.

You just can't go anywhere without meeting someone that you know in NZ.  At the airport, in the queue to board the plane, Jim met Garry Johnston, another refugee from Telecom, who was on his way to China to visit Huawei, the mobile network equipment manufacturer.  Garry went to Australia for a few years and then came back to NZ to work in Hamilton.

The flight to Hong Kong was too bad.  The plane was about 90% full, in cattle class at least. We were about 20 minutes late but had plenty of time for the next flight, and the connecting gate was not far from the landing gate.  We walked around for a while, then enjoyed the use of the free wifi.

  1. May the gods of travel (and St Christopher) keep you in the lands of free wifi! Hope your seat gave you some leg room.
